Quora question: What are the differences between WordPress and Wix in terms of features for creating personal websites?

Generally speaking, when people mention WordPress, they are referring to a content management system (CMS) software. When people talk about Wix, they are referring to a website-building service. Choosing WordPress often comes with a learning curve—you’ll need to acquire some knowledge, such as hosting management and maintenance, website security, using WordPress features, installing themes and plugins, and optimizing website performance. However, once you have these skills, managing your website becomes simple and efficient. This means you not only gain full control over your website but can also operate it at a lower cost.

On the other hand, choosing Wix is essentially trading convenience for money. While you can start with a free version, as your website grows and your feature needs increase, the cost will inevitably rise. Wix’s core concept is to modularize complex knowledge, like providing "building blocks" that allow you to easily construct a beautiful website. However, it’s important to note that Wix only "rents" you these blocks, meaning you don’t have absolute control over your website.
