Why AIwebister Visual Edit Is Not Drag-and-Drop
AIwebsiter includes a Visual Edit feature, also known as WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). It is designed to be simple and user-friendly: just click the pencil icon to replace content on the page—whether it's text, images, icons. You can use the “Settings” button to adjust colors, backgrounds, hover effects, and more, and the “Content” button to edit and publish new material.
Unlike many other CMS platforms, AIwebsiter's Visual Edit is not drag-and-drop. This might be a minor drawback for some users who prefer a drag-and-drop interface.
So, why did we choose not to implement a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG solution?
In the initial stages of our design process, we focused on three main priorities:
Simplicity: Our goal was to make the interface as easy to use as possible. By clicking the pencil icon to replace content, users can perform tasks effortlessly without overthinking.
Speed: We aimed for efficiency, ensuring that users see changes almost instantly—within a second—rather than waiting several seconds or more.
SEO Considerations: We focused on SEO by encapsulating CSS/JS properly, avoiding direct embedding on the page to maintain optimal performance.
We also considered two common perspectives on drag-and-drop functionality:
For new hands, drag-and-drop often does not result in a well-designed or professional website due to their limited design experience.
For most websites, once the site is live, the drag-and-drop feature often becomes redundant. Websites typically undergo major redesigns or only need content updates, with minimal need for drag-and-drop adjustments.
Ultimately, our distinctive Visual Edit feature emphasizes speed and ease of use over drag-and-drop. This design choice helps more people manage websites effectively, lowering the entry barrier.
We believe this approach has significant benefits for society, businesses, and job seekers alike.
